46% ABV - Ireland
Nose: Rich dark fruits, fruitcake, compote, raisins, and spices. Sweetened dried orange slices.
Taste: Cooked fruits laced with cinnamon and spices. Citrus and toasted oak.
Finish: Mostly spices and oak, with some ginger heat. Medium-long.
For every bottle that I’ve bought, I intend to write up some semi-detailed tasting notes like you read above. For the Redbreast Lusatu, the dang whiskey was so tasty that I finished the bottle before I could review it! Months and months later now, I managed to find someone that had it and I bought a single dram so that I could pour and review right now.
This is a ridiculously good value for Redbreast Lustau—it was around $115 CAD after taxes. Really accessible (in the sense that "non-whiskey drinkers" would probably like it) and really affordable (in the sense that you can enjoy it without thinking about all the things you probably should have bought instead).
Details (Official): This single pot still Irish whiskey was initially matured in a combination of American and European oak casks for 9 to 12 years, before being transferred over to first fill Oloroso Sherry casks from Bodegas Lustau for a year.
Tasting Notes (Official): Nose: A complex spicy and fruity aroma with toasted wood notes evident. Taste: Full flavoured and complex; silky smooth with a harmonious balance of spicy, fruity, sherry and toasted notes. Finish: Satisfyingly long, the complex flavours linger on the palate.
