50% ABV - Islay, Scotland
Nose: There is smoke right off the draw—a medium density foggy peat bog. Sweetness in the distance with sea spray.
Taste: Caramel and burnt citrus are small accents on the smokey palate.
Finish: Phenolic, iodine, and smoke. Medium-long.
It is a complete treat to be sipping on this 15-Year Laphroaig that was also bottled 15 years ago—and the same month too!
I found this in a shop just over a year ago… and looking at the bottle I have, there is not much more than a heel! Well, it will be surely missed. It has been very well received by my whisky friends and I’m hoping it will last until the next gathering so they can do me the honor of the #bottlekill.
Old Malt Cask is a fantastic label to look for; it is a line of bottlings by Douglas Laing. I have tasted the releases from other distilleries, at bottling strength of 50% ABV—the Old Malt Cask signature, and they are always good, great, and even better. Solid choice if you are looking for a random, exploration bottle to purchase.
