Dubh Glas Single Barrel C-007 Isolation

44% ABV - British Columbia, Canada

Nose: Sweet grains command the nose with light cereal notes, distant spices, honey, and grasses. It stayed true over time or with water.

Taste: A medley of soft, ripe fruits (including peach, pear) with light grains and spices. There is a small amount of woodiness, slightly creamy or buttery mouthfeel, and a maple-caramel touch.

Finish: Ending with honey, sweet bread, and fading spices… and I really think the suggestion of bubblegum is here!

Dubh Glas Distillery’s Isolation is a straight forward, sweet single malt… a complete contrast to the confusing, rough blend of a time that we are in right now. This spirit "is double distilled and aged for no less than three years in oak." I am not sure the exact age of this single barrel, but I can tell you that the flavours are very spirit-driven. I hope that I’ll be able to continue buying new releases and that we see an increasing amount of its lifetime spent in oak. If the quality in the glass right now is any indication of futures, then adding more years— carefully managed—could make for a magnificent mature malt.

I have really enjoyed this new world of ordering direct from the distillery that I have discovered. Whether it is brought about due to current global events or if it’s something that has always been there and I am just discovering now – I’m glad that it exists! Even though this bottle here is distilled just a bit over 400km away, it is very difficult to come by—in fact, ordering directly is the only way I am aware of. Put this distillery on your watchlist if you can’t find it yet; I expect only good things to continue coming!

Tasting Notes (Official): 100% ex-Bourbon custom made small barrel highlighting the sweetness of corn and reflective of our signature style with vanilla, caramel toffee, spice, roasted grain and bubblegum notes.

90+: Fantastic whisky; highly recommended.
My favourite whiskies – I might have more than one bottle if the price is right and the supply is limited! The higher values in this range will reflect a stronger balance and consistency between components.
85-89: Great whisky; recommended.
Whiskies that tick the flavour boxes and you'll likely hear about these from me. An easy decision to order at a bar/restaurant and one to consider buying a bottle of.
80-84: Very good whisky; recommended, but still consider trying before you buy.
Most of these whiskies I was really happy to have the opportunity to taste, but, apart from a dram here and there, I don’t think I would buy a bottle.
75-79: Good whisky; consider trying before you buy.
These are whiskies that I did enjoy drinking, but likely would reach for another bottle or select something different to order.
65-74: Average; consider trying before you buy, but not recommended.
There is nothing that stood out about this whisky and I might be inclined to mix it with soda or in a cocktail, instead of trying to enjoy its own flavours.
50-64: Bad; not recommended.
I didn’t like this and would sooner pass on another opportunity and order a beer instead than have it again… but never say never.
