Bowmore 25-Year Small Batch

43% ABV - Islay, Scotland

Nose: Red fruits lead the way, with hints of pineapple and smoked melon. Smoke billows in behind with some oak spices and pear.

Taste: Very delicate with light peat smoke, fireweed honey, apricot jelly, and lychee.

Finish: Here are the powdered violets and wispy smoke clouds! It is slightly drying and almost soapy, with notes of tropical fruits and sweet mandarins.

Well, this here must be my favourite dram of them all—not only for its taste, but the sentimental value of this bottle. We opened this on our wedding day and were able to share it with members of our wedding party and close family. I could do that every day!

The remaining amount in this bottle is now quite low… Luckily, I have the next iteration of the 25-Year waiting for me! I feel that the taste has changed, but it is more of an evolution than a diversion from Bowmore standards. I look forward to opening that next one and continuing the memories. Slàinte!

Details: This version of the label and use of Small Batch in the name were "discontinued" around 2017.

Tasting Notes (Official): On the eye deep, rich mahogany. Breathe in intense sherry and stewed fruits, with a trace of Bowmore smokiness. Sip delicious toffee and hazelnut, woven together with just a hint of swee peat smoke. Savour the mellow, gentle and incredibly complex finish.

Detailed Rating Information...

90+: Fantastic whisky; highly recommended.
My favourite whiskies – I might have more than one bottle if the price is right and the supply is limited! The higher values in this range will reflect a stronger balance and consistency between components.
85-89: Great whisky; recommended.
Whiskies that tick the flavour boxes and you'll likely hear about these from me. An easy decision to order at a bar/restaurant and one to consider buying a bottle of.
80-84: Very good whisky; recommended, but still consider trying before you buy.
Most of these whiskies I was really happy to have the opportunity to taste, but, apart from a dram here and there, I don’t think I would buy a bottle.
75-79: Good whisky; consider trying before you buy.
These are whiskies that I did enjoy drinking, but likely would reach for another bottle or select something different to order.
65-74: Average; consider trying before you buy, but not recommended.
There is nothing that stood out about this whisky and I might be inclined to mix it with soda or in a cocktail, instead of trying to enjoy its own flavours.
50-64: Bad; not recommended.
I didn’t like this and would sooner pass on another opportunity and order a beer instead than have it again… but never say never.
